Embroidery

I make digital machine embroidery designs. It is a three-step process: 1) Decide on an image, 2) create an illustration, and 3) translate to a machine embroidery design.

Learning illustration and embroidery digitizing software – including what it takes to make a good embroidery pattern – is an adventure and a learning cliff that stretches my abilities.

For the Geese embroidery, I started with a photo I took, used it as the illustration model, and then turned it into a digital embroidery design.

I’ve learned there are two main choices for embroidery digitizing: a line or a closed image that can be filled with stitches. The geese are a collection of closed shapes that can be filled. The order of what is embroidered first has to be considered, as well as grouping items of the same color to reduce thread changes. Below is an example.
